Description: Moses Atwood graduated from printer and bookseller in 1830 in Concord, N.H. to a “physician” there later. He evidently moved to a location near Georgetown, Mass about 1850, established a medical practice and sold bottled medicine on the side. His Bitters became the most popular brand in the Northern Hemisphere for the next seventy odd years.. Initially Atwood called it Vegetable Dyspeptic Bitters and about 1835 changed it to Vegetable Jaundice Bitters and the Vegetable was referred to only on the label – not embossed (Courtesy Bill & Betty Wilson – 19th Century Glass). This is one of the earliest examples you will find of this variant, great classic 12-sided patent medicine – heavily embossed. Fire-polished pontiled base.
