Description: Flint glass, six sided, sheared lip, light amethyst color, pontiled. 4 7/8”H. C. 1830. Italian-born Giovanni Maria Farina (Germanized name: Johann Maria Farina, Francized: Jean Marie Farina) launched his spirit-citrus perfume Eau de Cologne ("Waters of Cologne") in 1709, named for the city that welcomed him as an immigrant businessman. Over the coming decades the perfume became wildly popular among European royalty, and Farina remains the world's oldest fragrance company.
